My son’s school in Toronto has been assigning more online homework lately, and with the September days getting shorter and cooler, he’s spending more time indoors on his tablet in the evenings. I’ve seen blue light filter lenses marketed for adults, but I’m not sure if they’re really necessary for kids. Do blue light filters actually help prevent eye strain for children wearing kids' glasses, or is it mostly just a marketing gimmick? I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth investing in them now as we head into the longer, screen-heavy fall evenings.

Totally get what you’re asking. I’ve been in the same boat with my daughter here in Toronto – September evenings are already getting darker, and she’s spending more time on her tablet for homework. We ended up getting her a pair of kids' glasses with a subtle blue light filter, and I have to say it seems to help with eye fatigue, especially during those longer screen sessions. I wouldn’t call it a miracle, but she definitely complains less about tired eyes. If you’re looking for options, I found Affordable kids glasses options at Dresden really handy. They’ve got a few styles that fit well and aren’t too heavy for younger kids. It might be worth a look before you commit to anything.
